Toyota — GR Corolla

The Toyota Corolla GR, introduced in 2023, is a high-performance variant of the venerable Corolla hatchback, aimed at driving enthusiasts. Breaking away from the Corolla's traditionally economical and practical image, the GR boasts a 300-horsepower turbocharged three-cylinder engine, all-wheel drive with selectable power distribution, and a sport-tuned suspension. This potent combination promises exhilarating performance on the road and track, while retaining the Corolla's renowned reliability and safety features. Available in three distinct trims – Core, Circuit Edition, and the limited-production Morizo Edition – the GR caters to a range of driving preferences and budgets, offering a compelling alternative to established hot hatches from European and domestic rivals.

Hot Hatch has Arrived!

• 2020: Unveiled GR Yaris for WRC, not sold in North America due to lack of demand for regular Yaris. • Years of speculation: Toyota to bring a hot hatch to North America. • 2022: GR Corolla debuts, based on larger Corolla hatchback but uses features from GR Yaris. • More power: Same 1.6L turbo engine as GR Yaris, but boosted to 296-300hp thanks to 3 tailpipes (among other improvements). • GR-Four AWD: Standard 60:40 torque split, adjustable to 30:70 rear bias. • Safety & tech: Standard Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 and updated audio system. • Unique production: Built alongside GR Yaris in "GR Factory" using manual assembly and experienced technicians.

Morizo Edition: A Track-Ready Beast

Limited-edition GR Corolla with 100 lbs less weight, 22 lb-ft more torque, and sharper handling. Available in Japan and North America. Key changes • Lighter: Removed rear seats, carbon roof, rear door features, wiper. • More Powerful: Torque up to 295 lb-ft, same horsepower. • Sharper Handling: Stiffer suspension, wider tires, reinforced body. • Tuned for Track: Gear ratios, differentials, and engine optimized for sustained high-torque performance. • Named after: Akio Toyoda's racing pseudonym, "Morizo."
