Hyundai — Ioniq 5
History and Development
The Ioniq 5's design language owes a lot to the Hyundai 45 EV Concept, unveiled at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. Both vehicles share the inspiration of the original Hyundai Pony and the striking Parametric Pixel design elements seen in the headlights, taillights, and wheels. Developed under the project code NE, the Ioniq 5 became the first car built on Hyundai's dedicated Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). This platform allows for a flat floor design due to strategically placed batteries, maximizing interior space in the Ioniq 5. The Ioniq 5 was officially revealed in February 2021. It quickly gained recognition for its innovative design, impressive range (up to 325 miles for the rear-wheel-drive SEL trim), and overall value proposition. The Ioniq 5 signifies Hyundai's strategic shift towards electric vehicles. While the discontinued Hyundai Ioniq offered hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric variants, it was a different body style. The Ioniq 5 represents a dedicated electric vehicle within the Ioniq brand. The Ioniq 5 story doesn't end there. In 2023, we saw the introduction of the high-performance Ioniq 5 N, boasting a whopping 641 horsepower for a sportier electric driving experience. This signifies Hyundai's commitment to cater to diverse preferences within the electric vehicle market.
