Generations

st Generation (LM; 2005-2009): • Body style: Compact SUV with a boxy, truck-like silhouette. • Powertrains: Offered a choice between a 2.0L I4 engine producing around 140 horsepower and a more powerful 2.7L V6 offering around 173 horsepower. Both engines were paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. • Key features: Standard ABS and optional all-wheel drive provided capability for all-weather conditions. Early safety features like airbags and traction control were present. The interior offered a decent amount of space for passengers and cargo, but material quality was on the simpler side.

nd Generation (TM; 2010-2015): • Body style: Compact SUV with a more curvaceous and modern design compared to the first generation. • Other names: Known as the ix35 in Europe, Australia, and China. • Powertrains: Offered a wider variety of engine options, including a base 2.0L I4, a more powerful 2.4L I4, and even a turbocharged 2.0L I4 option for those seeking more performance. Transmission choices included a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. • Key features: The design shift brought a more refined look, and the interior quality improved with the use of better materials. A touchscreen infotainment system became available, offering a more modern user experience. Fuel efficiency also saw some improvement with the new engine options.

rd Generation (NX4; 2016-2021): • Body style: Compact SUV with a significant design overhaul. The Tucson adopted a more sculpted look with sharp lines and a bold front grille. • Powertrains: Hyundai continued to focus on fuel efficiency with a 2.0L naturally aspirated I4 engine and a 1.6L turbocharged I4 option offering more power. Both engines were paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. • Key features: The most significant change was the design, which aimed for a more premium and sophisticated feel. Advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) like lane departure warning and blind-spot monitoring became more prominent, enhancing safety. Interior space remained generous, and material quality took another step up.

th Generation (NL; 2022-present): • Body style: Compact SUV with a bold and futuristic design featuring a distinctive DRL lighting signature and a hidden rear windshield wiper. • Powertrains: A major shift towards electrification. Alongside the traditional gasoline engines, Hyundai introduced hybrid and plug-in hybrid options for the first time. The hybrid combines an electric motor with a 1.6L turbocharged I4 engine, while the plug-in hybrid offers additional electric-only driving range. • Key features: The focus on technology is evident with a digital instrument cluster and a larger touchscreen infotainment system. The latest generation Tucson boasts its most advanced safety features yet, including highway driving assist and adaptive cruise control.
